Broccoli and Almonds with Soy-Orange Glaze

img_47531This original recipe combines fresh spring green vegetables with flavors of orange, ginger, and sesame. The tamari almonds give it great texture and an extra flavor punch. A good St. Patrick’s Day recipe as it is very green! Best served over basmati or brown rice.


  • One head of broccoli, chopped in big pieces
  • swiss chard, loosely chopped
  • A small bunch of asparagus, chopped in inch-long pieces
  • 1/2 large onion, diced
  • 2 T olive oil
  • 1 T fresh ginger, minced
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 cup chopped Tamari almonds


  • 1 whole orange, juiced
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 1 T honey
  • 2 T soy sauce
  • 1 T rice wine vinegar
  • 1 T Sesame Oil
  • 2 tsp Aleppo Pepper flakes
  • a dash of cayenne
  • black pepper to taste

Sauté onions in olive oil and add garlic and ginger. When onions are golden, add broccoli and cover for five minutes. Add asparagus and let steam for 5-10 minutes more. When getting softer, add swiss chard, almonds, and a little bit of sesame oil. Finish by adding glaze and letting simmer for 2-3 minutes more. Serve over brown or basmati rice.
